When you hear the word theology, you might imagine big, confusing words with little relevance to regular life. Yet at its base, theology is the study of God. If you ever think about God, you do theology! So, it's important to make sure our thinking about God is based on the truth of God’s Word, that we know God in all his beauty, goodness, and holiness.
Join your pastors this semester as we dive into this brief 10-week introduction to Theology, the Study of God. We will explore big ideas like who God is, humanity, Jesus, salvation, angels and demons, and last things. Every week we will not only explore the truth of the doctrine, but we will also see why that truth matters to our life and faith. Come and join us!
Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? Can seemingly random pain have a purpose? Can you trust a just God in an unfair world? These are some of the questions we will explore in our dive into the Book of Job. Through the agony and pain experienced by Job, we get a glimpse of God’s purposes for our suffering as we look ahead to the restoration of all things in the new creation. Led by Vicki Dalzelle.
Please join us for what promises to be an eye-opening study of the Reformed doctrine of predestination or election. This study will likely challenge some of your long-held beliefs about our salvation. It’s probably the most controversial and misunderstood doctrine in the church. While churches have different views on election, the Reformed view is the one Presbyterians believe is biblical. Yes, we’ll have our hands full with this topic, but many find it both rewarding and humbling to learn we are saved entirely by grace apart from human effort.
We’ll use Dr. R.C. Sproul’s audio series, Predestination, Sproul’s book, Chosen by God ($12), and portions of the Westminster Confession of Faith for our discussion. The Westminster Confession states, “[T]he doctrine of election should promote worship, humility, assurance of salvation and diligent Christian living.” Those all sound like good reasons for joining us on Wednesday nights! Led by Steve Newby.
Why doesn’t marriage, our most intense lifelong relationship, come with a manual? We want our marriages to glorify God, but what does that really look like? We know God calls us to love and respect our spouse, but we need some practical steps to get there. The Marriage School offers The Third Option, a 14-week relationship skills course that helps couples build stronger, healthier marriages. This course is for healthy couples who want to grow stronger, committed couples who suffer from conflict or miscommunication, and couples who are in crisis. The class includes discussion, teaching and testimony. For more info or to register: themarriageschool.net
